May 2025 summary

Here’s what happened in May!

A couple new faces to share are Dax the meerkat and Phil the goat. 

Dax was found roaming the streets of Tokyo and captured by police, who turned to the International Ferret Society for advice. We’ve known the founder of the IFP for a long time, and they suggested that the police contact us. We took Dax in while the police searched for the meerkat’s owner. The owner was not found, so Dax has been officially surrendered to AnimO to join our meerkat colony. 

Phil the goat had been kept separate from other goats due to aggression and kept in a small pen, and with us he could experience a field of grass for the first time! We are looking for a better situation for him to be with a herd, but in the meantime we are taking him on walks and letting him taste all the leaves: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJNHRA2TPsR/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Facilities update – the small birds have been moved out of their travel cages from the move and into an aviary. When we have a larger enclosure ready for them they will be moved into that and this one will become a sugar glider habitat. We also have a brand new well water pump that allows us to have a free source of water, and a huge new rabbit run.

Donated vegetables

We love our local community. A farmer donated a truckload of leafy vegetables, which is good for both animals AND volunteers!

The local farmers have also started bringing us abandoned kittens they find on their farms. We have started adopting them out, and so far the three largest ones have already been placed in forever homes.
