Here’s what happened in March!
I am featured on an episode of the Wondros Podcast on YouTube! You can check that out here: https://youtu.be/S3ecpik3-6s

One of the new faces this month is Maximillian the umbrella cockatoo. He was kept chained to a perch in a pet cafe with nothing to do but pace back and forth and pluck his own feathers. Hopefully with a better environment, more enrichment, and a much better diet he can make a full recovery.

Jack the hawk joined us from the same shop as Harley Quinn. He’s doing better with falconry training than she is, but we still have a ways to go. The hawks are advertised as being like dogs that fly, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Dogs have been domesticated for a long time, but hawks are still completely wild. They can be worked with, but not trained in the same way as dogs. It’s a completely different skill set that takes years and specialized equipment to develop.

Two rabbits came with Jack, it’s hard to determine if they are pet rabbits or wild rabbits. Their coloring looks wild, but they’re quite docile. If they are wild they need to be released, but I will need to put a lot of thought into where they can be released to have the best shot at a full life. The area immediately around AnimO is full of predators and it wouldn’t be wise to do it here.

Last month's litters of rat babies are getting big! One litter had to be hand-fed. The other was mostly raised by the mother rat, but she was not a great caregiver. Thankfully, the hardest part is behind us and everyone here is now happy and healthy. Check out this little guy’s glossy fur!
Thank you to everyone on my Patreon, as well as everyone else that sent or brought packages of supplies. Every single donation is appreciated!
If you know someone who wants to support AnimO, or if you want to help more, there are lots of ways!
