Here’s what happened in December.

A pregnant rescue dog went into labor and needed an emergency C-section. The first puppy didn’t make it, but the vet surgical team saved the other three, and the mother also made it through. Shoutout to the two AnimO donors that helped Mina call dozens of veterinarians to find one that would accept mama dog for emergency care. It wasn’t easy! https://www.facebook.com/share/r/15VxYUP9wxk/

We have a few new faces, including Big Sexy and Tapioca, retired breeding caiques. They were aggressive at first and are still a bit shy, but they’re not picky eaters and Funkytown is their favorite song. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1C3CvkvR6c/

We also now have an Asian palm civet. He was surrendered because he never should have been sold as a pet in the first place and the situation had gotten dangerous for everyone. A home store sold the civet to a mother with young children, saying it was “docile” and “friendly,” and that he would get stressed in a large cage so a small one was better. All of that is the opposite of his actual demeanor and needs as a wild animal. The civet became aggressive and started ripping out the fur on his tail and hindquarters from stress. Thankfully, the mom found us and surrendered him to give him the life that she couldn’t. Unfortunately, this is not a species that is native to Japan so releasing him into the wild isn’t an option. We will give him the best life he can have, with proper nutrition and a more natural environment with climbing and hiding opportunities.

We are also making a few facility improvements, both inside and outside. Inside, we have poured concrete so there is a place to get clean (especially when it rains and everything turns to mud) before going all the way into the house. To make it even more meaningful, the names of some special people have been drawn into it, people that were instrumental to building AnimO long before we had this location. Outside, we are expanding the driveway and building a new gate.

Thank you to everyone on the Patreon, as well as everyone else that sent or brought packages of supplies. Every single donation is appreciated!

If you know someone who wants to support AnimO, or if you want to help more, there are lots of ways!
