September 2024 summary

Kim Reynolds

Here’s what happened in September!

You could say it’s a new dawn for AnimO. Mina and all but the largest animals have been moved from the old facility to the new one, and the new location is officially the main one.

Gemma, our General Manager, has been working remotely from the UK but is on site for a couple weeks to learn all the ins and outs of how the day to day operations work.

There are several new habitats to celebrate! Tito the monkey, the hawks Harley, Quinn, and Jaques, Lalah the macaw, and Iggy the iguana all have brand new custom enclosures.

In animal updates, Duke the meerkat’s overgrown teeth have been filed and reshaped and now he has a much easier time eating and can breathe more normally, so he is at less risk for health problems. Heihei the crow has been released and still comes back every morning to say hello.

There were a number of new faces this month as well. Trudy the tortoise has a beak deformity and needs regular beak trimmings and more care than most tortoises, but she is settling in well and enjoys a morning soak to start her day off right.

Two new guinea pigs (PB and S’mores) were surrendered by their owner who did not want to give them up but could no longer keep them.

Tomi the pigeon was found injured and brought to AnimO to recuperate. When she is healthy again, she’ll be introduced to the AnimO flock that flies free during the day and returns to the coop every night.

Two ferrets joined us as well, Tofu and Miso. They were also reluctant owner surrenders. They are well loved and well cared for, neutered and microchipped, but the family is moving to a place where ferrets are illegal.

Last but not least we have the chickens Hunk and Funk with their fancy hairdos.

Thank you to everyone on the Patreon, as well as everyone else that sent or brought packages of supplies. Every single donation is appreciated!

If you know someone who wants to support AnimO, or if you want to help more, there are lots of ways!
